چکیده

cant. To the best of our knowledge, the present study is the first to systematically investigate interindividual seasonal variations of CRP in several large populations. In two studies, seasonal variation of CRP was investigated on an intraindividual basis. Woodhouse et al. (2 ) reported higher CRP concentrations in winter with a peak in March, and Crawford et al. (13 ) found a significant seasonal variation of CRP with a peak in late February. The lack of seasonal variability of CRP in the present study may be somewhat contradictory to a previous report from our group (8 ) and to others (2, 13), in which seasonal variations of a variety of acute-phase proteins, such as fibrinogen, PAI-1, plasminogen, and 1-glycoprotein, have been observed. However, in contrast to the major acute-phase reactant CRP, these coagulation proteins are not exclusively related to the acute-phase response. The predictive value of CRP for cardiovascular events has been consistently established in a variety of prospective studies (3, 4), and highly sensitive assays for CRP are now widely available with low analytical variability. In a recently published study (14 ), Meier-Ewert et al. demonstrated that baseline CRP concentrations are not subject to time-of-day variation. In the present study, we found no convincing evidence for seasonal variation of CRP; thus there should be no concern about misclassification of participants in population studies and in clinical practice measured during various seasons.

Molecular, clinical and peripheral neuropathy study of Tunisian patients with ataxia with vitamin E deficiency.

Ataxia with vitamin E deficiency is an autosomal recessive cerebellar ataxia caused by mutations in the α-tocopherol transfer protein coding gene localized on chromosome 8q, leading to lower levels of serum vitamin E. More than 91 patients diagnosed with ataxia with vitamin E deficiency have been reported worldwide. The majority of cases originated in the Mediterranean region, and the 744delA w...

A family with spinocerebellar ataxia type 8 expansion and vitamin E deficiency ataxia.

BACKGROUND Ataxia with vitamin E deficiency is a recessive autosomal neurodegenerative disorder resembling the Friedreich ataxia phenotype but is due to mutations in the alpha-tocopherol transfer protein (TTPA) gene. In a recent article, we described a patient with ataxia carrying reduced serum vitamin E levels and showing CTA/CTG expansions of 320 triplet repeats in the SCA8 gene. OBJECTIVES...

Clinical and Genetic Study of Friedreich’s Ataxia and Ataxia with Vitamin E Deficiency in 44 Moroccan Families

Introduction: Friedreich ataxia (FRDA) is a multi-system autosomal-recessive disease, the most common one of the genetically inherited ataxias. FRDA occurs as a consequence of mutations in the frataxin gene, with an expansion of a GAA trinucleotide. Ataxia with vitamin E deficiency (AVED) is characterized clinically by neurological symptoms with often striking resemblance to those of Friedreich...

بررسی تاثیر برخی از ویتامین‌های گروه B و آنتی اکسیدان‌ها بر سطوح سرمی آپولیپوپروتیین A1 و آپولیپوپروتیین B در بیماران دیابتی نوع دو

Background: Lipoprotein abnormalities have been identified among the several risk factors that could account for increases the risk of CVD in diabetes. Abnormal status of B-group and antioxidant vitamins in diabetes may illustrate the benefits of these vitamins supplementation on modification of lipid profiles. Methods: As a randomized double blind placebo controlled clinical trial, 110 type 2...

Serum vitamin E concentrations are normal in Friedreich's ataxia.

Serum vitamin E concentrations and vitamin E:cholesterol ratios in 31 patients with Friedreich's ataxia were not significantly different from values obtained from either disabled or ambulant control subjects. Although the clinical features of Friedreich's ataxia are similar to those associated with severe vitamin E deficiency, there are subtle but important clinical and neurophysiological diffe...
